The City of Chanhassen has embarked on a comprehensive planning process to update its 2040 Comprehensive Plan and establish a new vision for 2050. Building on the foundation of the city’s recently adopted Strategic Plan, this initiative will feature an inclusive community engagement process designed to reflect the voices, values, and aspirations of residents and stakeholders.
Together, these insights will inform a strategically grounded Comprehensive Plan that provides a measured assessment of current conditions and future opportunities. Using a solid, data-driven foundation, the process will evaluate community needs, identify redevelopment nodes, and shape clear goals and implementation strategies. The result will be a visionary, inclusive, and actionable 2050 Comprehensive Plan that guides future growth and development while advancing Chanhassen’s priorities and long-term community goals.
A successful comprehensive planning process is based on three primary principles: It is Future Oriented, Data Driven and People Focused.
The ‘future orientation’ is particularly important to take account of rapidly emerging social and technological trends. The ‘data driven’ ensures the plan is built on solid research, public input and information, and is measurable. The ‘people focused’ is important to build support for the vision and goals for the city, and to harness the best possible input into the plan’s formulation.
